McQuaid Invitational in Rochester: Local Athletes Shine on a National Stage
Strong Performances at the Nation’s Largest High School Cross Country Meet
The 60th annual McQuaid Invitational, held at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, drew approximately 7,000 runners, making it the largest high school-sponsored cross-country event in the nation. Southwestern’s Emma Lewis excelled in the Girls Varsity A-1 race (Small School Division), completing the 3-mile course in 17:29.1, securing first place. Freshman Ellie Roberts of South Jefferson followed in second with 18:12.2. Lewis’ standout performance contributed to the Trojans’ sixth-place team finish, the best among local teams.
Top Local Boys’ Achievements at McQuaid Invitational
Maple Grove’s senior Ethan Verbosky led local male athletes, finishing second in the Boys Varsity A-2 race with a time of 15:24.9, trailing Ibrahim Ford of Arkport-Canaseraga by 17 seconds. The Red Dragons secured second place in team standings with 129 points.
Local Girls Show Strong Results in Varsity A-2 Race
- Savannah Whitney, Clymer/Sherman/Panama, finished 13th with 19:37.2
- Grace Cooke, Clymer/Sherman/Panama, took 18th at 19:50.3
- Jadyn Trocki from Frewsburg placed 30th with 20:44.1
Clymer/Sherman/Panama placed sixth as a team with 246 points. Maple Grove, Frewsburg, and other schools also had notable finishes, ranking eighth, 12th, and beyond.
Impressive Local Girls’ Performances in Varsity A-1 and AA Races
In the Girls Varsity A-1 race, Fredonia/Westfield’s Izzie Czekanski came in 15th with a time of 19:19.7, contributing to the 13th place team finish. For the Girls Varsity AA, Dunkirk/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Hanan Mohamad Narvaez secured the 20th position with a 19:38.2 finish, leading her team to 13th place.
Noteworthy Boys’ Finish in the Varsity A-2 Race
- Grant Cornell, Franklinville/Ellicottville, finished 11th at 16:00.1
- Christopher Phelps of Clymer/Sherman/Panama was 17th with 16:14.3
- Ty Kraft from Maple Grove took 24th, clocking 16:40.3
Overall, Clymer/Sherman/Panama ranked seventh as a team, totaling 266 points, while Franklinville/Ellicottville came in 20th.
Boys Varsity A-1 and AA Races: Team Achievements
In the Boys Varsity A-1 race, Fredonia/Westfield’s Trenton Krenzer placed 41st with a time of 16:55.2, helping the team achieve a seventh-place finish. In the Boys Varsity AA, Randolph’s Rhys Kelly placed 75th, with Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville ranking 34th in team standings.
