San Jose Sharks Prepare for Season Amid Macklin Celebrini Health Updates

Macklin Celebrini’s Health and Preparation for the San Jose Sharks’ Season

San Jose — Macklin Celebrini’s health has been under much speculation since the start of the San Jose Sharks’ training camp. Both Celebrini and the team have remained tight-lipped about the exact nature of his illness, but optimism surrounds his readiness. “I’ll be ready,” declared Celebrini on Sunday, indicating confidence in the recovery plan laid out for him. The Sharks kick off their regular season on October 9 against the Vegas Golden Knights at home.

Preseason Games and Player Participation

The Sharks are in the midst of a busy preseason schedule, with four games happening this week. Their preseason began with an exhibition in Anaheim against the Ducks. Celebrini has participated in most drills but has avoided those involving heavy contact. This cautious approach has included strength and conditioning exercises with development coach Mike Ricci.

Coach Ryan Warsofsky mentioned that Celebrini, yet to appear in any preseason games, will engage in full-contact practice soon. The aim is to have Celebrini participate in at least one preseason match, though his appearance in Monday’s game is uncertain. Following the Anaheim game, the Sharks play the Ducks at home on Wednesday, travel to face the Golden Knights on Friday, and conclude the preseason against the Utah Mammoth on Saturday.

Key Players’ Status Update

Defenseman John Klingberg returned to the main training group after dealing with an upper-body injury sustained during the preseason opener on September 21. Like Celebrini, Klingberg has avoided intense contact but has resumed skating and is on track to fully participate in practices soon.

San Jose Sharks Training Camp Roster Adjustments

The Sharks have trimmed their roster to 50 players, making strategic assignments to junior teams. Forward Carson Wetsch, a third-round pick in 2024, has been assigned to the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets. Meanwhile, defenseman Haoxi (Simon) Wang will join the OHL’s Oshawa Generals. Wang, chosen early in this year’s draft, had been sidelined due to injury but is now fit to play, according to Coach Warsofsky.

Wetsch played in his first NHL preseason game last Friday, marking his presence with two hits during a loss to the Golden Knights. Warsofsky praised Wang’s potential and adaptiveness, seeing promising skills and agility in the young defenseman. “He’s very coachable,” Warsofsky added, highlighting Wang’s growth and adaptation during the camp.
