Jannik Sinner Advances to China Open Semi-Finals with Triumph Over Fabian Marozsan
Jannik Sinner, the world number two, secured a spot in the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing with an impressive 6-1, 7-5 victory over Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan on Monday. The Italian star has now reached the semi-final stage in seven out of the eight tournaments he has competed in this year.
Dominant Start and Swift Recovery
Sinner showcased his prowess by taking just 26 minutes to clinch the first set. Despite falling awkwardly in the eighth game of the second set and initially being down 4-5, he managed a swift comeback to conquer Marozsan. Sinner capitalized on his opponent’s serve in the 12th game to seal his 40th tour-level match win this season, overcoming a brief setback earlier in the year when he was handed a short doping ban.
“I feel like I started off very well in the first set. We both played well in the second set,” Sinner noted. “When he was serving for the set he made a couple of unforced errors which helped me to come back and win in two.”
Upcoming Showdown with Alex de Minaur
Next up for Sinner is a clash against Australian third seed Alex de Minaur, who advanced to the semi-finals after a challenging match against Czech player Jakub Mensik. Mensik retired with a left-leg injury while trailing 1-4 in the first set, clearing the way for de Minaur’s progress.
Other Highlights in Beijing
- In a surprising twist, American teenager Learner Tien advanced to his first ATP Tour semi-final, following the retirement of fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti, who was trailing 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 due to a thigh or groin issue.
- Eighth seed Daniil Medvedev secured a decisive win over German second seed Alexander Zverev, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3. Medvedev continues his dominance over Zverev, having triumphed in 14 of their 20 encounters, including eight out of their last ten matches.
