Cassadaga Shurfine Celebrates the Return of Its Beloved Indian Buffet

Indian Buffet Returns to Cassadaga Shurfine: Community Rallying for Diversity
In a heartwarming turn of events, the Cassadaga Shurfine is reinstating its popular Indian food buffet, responding to overwhelming community support. The buffet, which will now take place every Wednesday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., celebrated its grand reopening last Saturday, much to the delight of local residents.
Community Support Fuels Buffet Reopening
The decision to bring back the Indian buffet was significantly influenced by the support from the Cassadaga community. Originally, the buffet was discontinued due to disparaging remarks about it from some patrons. In light of the negative feedback, Sheriff Quattrone publicly condemned the hurtful comments, aligning himself with advocates for diversity and inclusion.
Local officials, including Village Trustees Cindy Flaherty and Cathy Cruver, stood firmly against the negative remarks, emphasizing the community’s better character. Flaherty stated, “I just thought it was appalling,” while Cruver voiced hopes that such narrow-minded views do not represent the majority. This united front encouraged local residents to show their support by participating in events aimed at restoring the buffet.
Successful Fundraiser Showcasing Community Unity
In a remarkable demonstration of support, local residents Sue Bigler and Joe Brzezowski organized a special order for the buffet, inviting 50 guests to enjoy the evening. Bigler noted the “overwhelming response” from the community, with many coming out to support the staff and the diversity the buffet offered. Due to the high turnout, a cap of 50 attendees was set to accommodate seating and safety protocols.
Bigler shared her sentiments after the event, stating, “We’re hoping that we have shown Tammy and her staff that there are many folks out there who support them and who enjoy more variety in their dining menus, including delicious Indian cuisine.” This successful fundraiser further spurred the decision to permanently reinstate the buffet.
Community Appreciation Day Highlights Support
Aside from the buffet events, an appreciation day was recently held at Cassadaga Shurfine, where community members were encouraged to make purchases and share messages of support. The store displayed numerous cards filled with positive notes from patrons, reflecting a strong desire for inclusivity within the community.
Buffet Announcement Sparks Positive Reactions
The announcement of the Indian buffet’s return has already garnered significant attention on social media, with nearly 400 reactions and numerous comments expressing excitement. A message shared by Cassadaga Shurfine on Facebook thanked the community for their “kindness and support,” which has been instrumental in bringing back the beloved buffet.
As Cassadaga Shurfine resumes its Indian cuisine offerings, the community’s commitment to diversity and support continues to ripple through this tight-knit town. The buffet’s reopening not only reflects a culinary comeback, but also symbolizes the power of unity in facing adversity.
