Don’t Miss These Two Opportunities to View the International Space Station
Spectacular ISS Viewing Opportunities in Central Texas
The International Space Station (ISS) is set to dazzle stargazers in Central Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with clear opportunities to witness its swift movement across the sky. Appearing as a bright, rapidly moving dot, the ISS reflects sunlight, making it visible at dawn and dusk when the Sun is still illuminating it from space, despite darkness on the ground.
Viewing Highlights for Central Texas on Tuesday Night
On Tuesday, sky watchers can catch a glimpse of the ISS from 8:43 PM to 8:46 PM. The ISS will first appear on the West-Northwestern horizon, continuing to move across the southwestern sky and reaching a peak height of 42°. Although it will only be visible for three minutes, this is a fantastic chance to spot the space station thanks to its swift orbit at 17,500 mph.
Prime Viewing Opportunities on Wednesday Night
Wednesday presents the best opportunity to view the ISS as it arcs directly over Central Texas. The station will become visible on the Northwest horizon at 7:55 PM and will reach a zenith of 90° directly overhead at 7:58 PM. This six-minute window allows viewers to track the ISS as it moves from Northwest to Southeast.
Weather Conditions for Ideal Viewing
Viewing conditions on both evenings are forecast to be very favorable. While there may be a few stray clouds on Tuesday evening, most of the skies are expected to clear by the afternoon. Wednesday night promises crystal-clear skies, providing ideal conditions to observe the ISS transit.
