TCU Challenges Allegations of Canceling Turning Point Event with De-transitioner

Texas Christian University Responds to Controversy Over Event Cancellation Claims
TCU Addresses Claims Surrounding a Canceled Turning Point USA Event
Texas Christian University (TCU) recently addressed allegations that it had canceled a Turning Point USA event featuring de-transitioner Chloe Cole. Reports of the cancellation sparked reactions from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Representative Chip Roy. In a statement provided to Emegypt, TCU clarified its stance, emphasizing that the event had never been confirmed.
Understanding the Scheduling Conflict
According to a TCU spokesperson, on September 18, a separate Turning Point USA event was successfully conducted at the university to commemorate Charlie Kirk. However, an external group, unaffiliated with TCU, attempted to organize another event featuring an external speaker on October 7. The university’s student chapter of Turning Point USA requested space for 700 to 1,000 attendees, but the preferred venue was already reserved for another student engagement.
TCU explained that they informed the group on September 25 that securing the needed space on short notice was unfeasible, and offered to explore alternative dates or venues. The university emphasized that the event was never officially canceled as it had not been booked in the first place.
Political Reactions and University’s Response
Attorney General Ken Paxton voiced his concerns, questioning the university’s commitment to free speech. Similarly, Representative Chip Roy expressed his dissatisfaction, highlighting Chloe Cole’s significant contributions to discussions on transitioning and de-transitioning.
The university responded by reaching out to Paxton to provide accurate details regarding the scheduling conflict, but had yet to receive a response. Roy advocated for universities to facilitate open dialogues and criticized perceived suppression of conservative viewpoints. He encouraged TCU to support the Turning Point USA chapter’s efforts to host their event.
Chloe Cole’s Perspective
Chloe Cole has publicly criticized TCU for allegedly complicating her speaking engagement, asserting that the institution hindered the event’s organization. She praised Hillsdale College for facilitating her appearance and urged Christian colleges to uphold free speech principles.
Cole further criticized TCU for their event management, claiming that the university prioritizes certain events while allegedly denying access to others, including her October 7 event. She expressed her frustrations on social media, suggesting this approach stifles free speech.
Emegypt has reached out to both Chloe Cole and Turning Point USA for additional comments on the situation. Further developments on this story will be monitored and reported as they arise.
