Gaza Flotilla Incident: Vessels Intercepted at Ashdod Naval Base

Intercepted Flotilla Vessels Arrive in Israel

The last of the 42 vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla has been intercepted, with several boats reaching Ashdod Naval Base in Israel. These events unfolded as some of the flotilla’s boats shared Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, making their movements visible on the MarineTraffic website.

Movement and Position of Flotilla Vessels

One of the vessels, Estrella Y Manuel, was notably observed diverging from the group approximately 50 nautical miles from Gaza on Wednesday night. It rerouted towards Ashdod, where it has been stationed since Thursday evening. By Friday morning, AIS data confirmed the locations of five flotilla boats, including the Estrella Y Manuel, Adara, Capten Nikos, Ohwayla, and Seulle, at the Ashdod port.

Controversy Surrounding the MSC Johannesburg

A statement from the flotilla on Thursday claimed that hundreds of their participants were transferred onto the MSC Johannesburg, a Liberia-flagged container ship. This vessel was spotted 26 nautical miles from Ashdod and is now docked at the north jetty of the port.

In response to these claims, MSC, the company operating the Johannesburg, refuted the flotilla’s statement. They clarified to Emegypt that the Johannesburg is a container ship and not a naval vessel, suggesting misinformation in the flotilla’s account.

Awaiting Clarification from Authorities

Emegypt has sought feedback from the Israel Defense Forces regarding the return of the vessels to their respective owners and the duration of the detention for those involved. The flotilla organizers have been approached for their response to the latest developments.
