Fernando Alonso Calls Aston Martin’s Best Friday of 2025 a Triumph After Strong Singapore Showing

Alonso and Aston Martin Show Optimism on First Day of Singapore Grand Prix Practice

Fernando Alonso expressed confidence in both his and Aston Martin’s performance during the opening day of practice for the Singapore Grand Prix. The veteran driver noted that the team feels “more optimistic” about their prospects compared to the previous two races, setting a positive tone for the weekend ahead.

Strong Practice Performance for Aston Martin

This season, the AMR25 chassis has demonstrated improved performance on high-downforce circuits, like the Hungaroring and Zandvoort. Alonso kicked off the practice sessions at the Marina Bay Street Circuit with an impressive display, securing the fastest time in FP1 and finishing fourth in FP2. This comes after challenging weekends for Aston Martin at the low-downforce tracks of Monza and the Baku City Circuit. The Silverstone-based team is eager to improve its current standing in the Teams’ Championship, currently sitting in seventh place.

Alonso Identifies Areas for Improvement

Reflecting on the day’s performances, Alonso remarked, “It seems a little bit better than the previous Grands Prix.” He highlighted that while there are improvements to be made, particularly regarding front axle stability and understeer, the overall feeling was encouraging. He stated:

  • Adjustment of the set-up is needed for an optimal performance.
  • The team plans to work on identified issues overnight.
  • Preparation for Qualifying on Saturday is crucial for a competitive edge.

“I think it’s a good start, and let’s see what we can do tomorrow,” he added, expressing hope for a strong showing in qualifying.

Stroll’s Performance and Team Dynamics

Teammate Lance Stroll had a more subdued FP1 but redeemed himself in the evening session, breaking into the top six during FP2. He remarked on the day’s learning experience, stating:

  • There was significant improvement in car handling throughout the day.
  • The transition from day to night brought different track conditions.
  • Maintaining competitive lap times was a highlight of his session.

Stroll noted the distinct difference in track conditions between the two sessions and mentioned, “I had a good feeling in the car; we were competitive in that session,” as he looked forward to the challenges of the upcoming day.

Looking Ahead to Qualifying

With both drivers delivering solid performances on their practice runs, the team is keenly focused on the qualifying session ahead. Alonso stated that the true test will come when teams run their full programs, and he remains hopeful for a spot in Q3 and a chance to score valuable points on race day.

As Aston Martin aims to capitalize on their promising start, fans and analysts alike will be eagerly watching how the team navigates the challenges of the Marina Bay Street Circuit in the coming days.
