Coastal Carolina Dominates at Home, Secures 20th Consecutive Victory
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University achieved another victory as they decisively defeated Old Dominion for the second day in a row, winning in straight sets (25-17, 27-25, 25-21) at the HTC Center on Saturday. This victory marks the Chanticleers’ impressive 20th consecutive home win against a Sun Belt Conference East Division opponent.
After this success, the Chanticleers’ season record improves to 11-4 overall, with a 4-0 standing in the Sun Belt Conference. In contrast, Old Dominion falls to 3-12 overall and remains winless in the conference at 0-4.
Impressive Performances Propel Chanticleers
Junior player Jalyn Stout excelled with her 42nd career triple-double, recording 13 kills, 14 assists, and 10 digs. Teammate Ava Wallis nearly achieved a double-double with nine digs and a team-high 17 assists, while Bailee Earnhardt led the team with 12 digs. Anna Rita contributed defensively with five blocks.
Old Dominion’s effort included Bryanna Jones leading with 11 kills, Kyra Hampton achieving a match-high of 23 assists, and Adrienne Peji securing 13 digs.
Set-by-Set Highlights
- Set One: Coastal Carolina secured the opening set with a strong 5-0 run. The team’s defense forced three Monarch errors, while Wallis delivered an ace and Stout notched another kill.
- Set Two: Old Dominion led late at 24-22, but Coastal fought back, tying the set at 24 with Earnhardt’s ace. Stout’s service ace and Van Elslande’s clinching kill gave the Chanticleers a thrilling comeback win.
- Set Three: The final set began with Coastal leading 9-2. Although ODU narrowed the gap, the Chanticleers responded with a decisive 5-point run, securing a 22-16 lead and ultimately winning by four points.
