Spanning four days, this event promises a multitude of activities, designed to bring Saluki families together and showcase the vibrant campus spirit. Join Actor and Activist Danny Trejo at SIU

A standout highlight of the weekend will be a guest appearance from renowned actor, restaurateur, and activist Danny Trejo. Known for his roles in Hollywood and his commitment to social advocacy, Trejo will address students and guests at Shryock Auditorium on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and attendees will have the unique opportunity to participate in a meet-and-greet session with Trejo after his talk.

Sampling Local Flavors with “Taste of Carbondale”

The Taste of Carbondale event returns, offering visitors a culinary tour of local cuisine. From 2 to 4 p.m. on October 2, the north lawn of Morris Library will host this delightful event, featuring complimentary samples from various local eateries. Participants can also avail themselves of exclusive restaurant discounts by registering on-site.

Engage in Creative and Family-Friendly Activities

Family Weekend also features a Craft Sale at the Student Center running on October 3 and 4. This two-day event will showcase unique arts and crafts, welcoming all with complimentary admission. Additional interactive workshops, like the Saluki Tie-Dye and puppet crafting sessions, provide ample opportunity for creative expression.

Moreover, families can unwind with a free outdoor movie screening of “Spy Kids” at 7 p.m. on October 3 in Itchy Jones Stadium. The Student Programming Council ensures family-friendly programming, ensuring everyone leaves with cherished memories.

Root for the Saluki Football Team and Enjoy Tailgating Festivities

Experience the thrill of Saluki football on October 4 at Saluki Stadium where SIU will face off against Indiana State University. Prior to the game, families can immerse themselves in the festive Saluki Family Tailgate from 3 to 5 p.m., complete with a live DJ, games, and delicious food options such as Smokin’ K’s BBQ.
