Former Teammates Set to Overcome Personal Feelings in KBO Postseason Showdown as Managers

SSG Landers and Samsung Lions Prepare for Intense KBO Playoff Showdown

The SSG Landers and Samsung Lions are gearing up for a thrilling best-of-five Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason showdown, beginning Thursday at Incheon SSG Landers Field in Incheon. This highly anticipated series marks the first time that longtime friends and former teammates, SSG Landers manager Lee Sung-yong and Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man, will face off as opposing managers.

Old Teammates Set to Become Postseason Rivals

Lee Sung-yong and Park Jin-man share a rich history, having played together for the Hyundai Unicorns from 1996 to 2004. Lee, being five years Park’s senior, was instrumental in mentoring Park when he joined the KBO directly after high school. Their bond was so strong that Lee introduced Park to his future wife. “I really liked him as a teammate back then,” Lee reminisced, reflecting on their shared past. “And it brings back a lot of memories, now that we’re about to meet as opposing managers in the postseason.”

Park Jin-man attributes much of his development as one of the finest shortstops in KBO history to Lee’s guidance. “When I came straight out of high school and knew nothing about professional baseball, he really showed me the ropes,” Park acknowledged, describing Lee as the teammate he admired the most. “We built a lot of fond memories together.”

Focus on Winning the Series

Despite their longstanding friendship, both managers have made it clear that their focus is now on securing victory in the postseason series. Park expressed a need to set aside personal feelings to concentrate on the game ahead, stating, “I have to check my personal feelings at the door,” and highlighting his determination to outsmart Lee in the series.

The series promises to deliver an exciting clash as these two seasoned managers, drawing from their past experiences and deep understanding of one another’s strategies, prepare to lead their teams in this highly competitive postseason battle.
