Aryna Sabalenka Reveals Insight into Her Close Bond with Novak Djokovic
Sabalenka and Djokovic Share Memorable Moments in Greece
Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning WTA Tour No.1, recently divulged details about her close friendship with tennis legend Novak Djokovic. Known for their playful exchanges and light-hearted interactions, the duo recently enjoyed a memorable gathering in Greece. During her ongoing Wuhan Open campaign, Sabalenka shared with Emegypt that she and Djokovic, along with their significant others, enjoyed dinner together while attending a training camp in Greece.
Sabalenka described her experience training with Djokovic, stating, “I love Novak; he’s always willing to give me good advice. Training with him was great. He would shout when he won points against me, but I must say I beat him quite a few too.” The camaraderie was further highlighted by a photo posted on social media, featuring Sabalenka and her partner enjoying time with Djokovic and Jelena, his wife.
Supporting Djokovic: Sabalenka Defends the Tennis Icon
Beyond their social outings, Sabalenka has been a vocal supporter of Djokovic, defending him against the immense external pressures he faces. Speaking out during the summer, she expressed concern over the public scrutiny, stating, “You guys are trying to put as much pressure as you can on Novak. Leave him alone [laughing] look at him. He’s fit. He’s strong. Mentally and physically I think he’s ready to play another two or three years.”
Sabalenka emphasized the challenges athletes face as they age, acknowledging, “Of course, everyone has ups and downs. The older you get, the tougher it gets to stay consistent on the level.” Yet, she remains confident in Djokovic’s abilities, pointing out his consistent high-level play whenever he’s healthy and fit.
The Future of Tennis: Sabalenka’s Perspective
Reflecting on Djokovic’s legacy and the future of tennis, Sabalenka remarked on the absence of other great tennis legends. “It was so sad to see the ceremony. Big Four were on the court. You understand that three of them retired. Everyone is missing their game. Just leave Novak to be there, to fight, and to show his greatness and to inspire the next generation,” she added.
As the tennis world eagerly anticipates the rise of new talent like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Sabalenka urges the community to cherish Djokovic’s presence on the court. Her support underscores the deep respect and admiration she holds for Djokovic as a friend and phenomenal athlete.
