Doctor Who and Strictly Star Alex Kingston Opens Up About Womb Cancer Diagnosis

Actress Alex Kingston Discusses Womb Cancer Battle and Strictly Come Dancing Triumph
Alex Kingston Opens Up About Womb Cancer Diagnosis
Renowned actress Alex Kingston recently unveiled her battle with womb cancer, diagnosed last year. Kingston, famous for her roles in “Doctor Who” and “ER,” shared her story with Emegypt, revealing the life-changing journey she’s been through. Her treatment, which included a hysterectomy and radiation therapy, concluded late last year.
The 62-year-old actress remarked, “I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it. But a lot of how I was feeling was to do with my illness.”
Recognizing the Symptoms
Before seeking medical assistance, Kingston experienced persistent bloating and aches, along with a more alarming symptom—blood in her urine. Initially dismissing the idea of cancer, she attributed her symptoms to other conditions like a urinary tract infection or fibroids. It wasn’t until after a significant hemorrhage during a stage performance at Chichester Festival Theatre that she pursued further examination and received her diagnosis.
Doctors informed Kingston that the cancer originated in her fallopian tubes but had fortunately not spread to the ovaries. After undergoing a major operation, she noted, “The minute I had the operation, I suddenly felt like myself again.”
Kingston Encourages Health Vigilance
Determined to raise awareness, Kingston urges women to pay close attention to their health, encouraging medical consultations if any unusual symptoms arise. In her view, it is crucial to be proactive in addressing health concerns.
Alex Kingston’s Strictly Come Dancing Participation
Currently captivating audiences on “Strictly Come Dancing,” Kingston partners with professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The pair achieved the top spot on the leaderboard with a vibrant samba. The actress shared that her recent experiences prompted her to participate in the dance competition, stating, “Life is too short” to pass up desired opportunities.
Understanding Womb Cancer Symptoms
Womb cancer often presents with specific symptoms that should not be ignored. The most common signs include:
- Unexpected vaginal bleeding, especially post-menopause
- Bleeding between periods
- Bleeding following intercourse
- Heavy, irregular periods
- Persistent heavy periods unresponsive to medical treatment
- Watery or bloody vaginal discharge
While not all abnormal bleeding indicates cancer, consulting a GP to discuss symptoms is imperative to rule out serious health issues.
