Karwa Chauth 2025: Important Muhurat and Rituals
Karwa Chauth is also known as Karak Chaturthi. The term ‘Karwa’ or ‘Karak’ refers to the earthen pot used for making water offerings, known as ‘Argha’, to the moon. This pot is significant during the puja and is also traditionally given as ‘Dan’ to a Brahmin. This year’s Chaturthi Tithi began at 10:54 PM on October 9 and concluded at 7:38 PM on October 10.
Significance of Karwa Chauth
The festival of Karwa Chauth is a celebration of the marital bond and the devotion of a wife towards her husband. On this day, married Hindu women undertake the ‘nirjala vrat’, a stringent fast without food or water, from sunrise until moonrise. This ritual underscores their prayers for their husband’s well-being, longevity, and prosperity.
This year, many celebrity couples, including Prajakta Koli and Vrishank Khanal, as well as Neeraj Chopra and Himani Mor, are marking their first Karwa Chauth together, adding to the festival’s joyous spirit.
The festival, cherished especially in North India, is a testament to the enduring ties of love and commitment between married partners, making it a significant cultural event commemorated with immense devotion and admiration.
