Rocket de Laval Embraces Playoff Mindset from Day One of Camp

Laval Rocket Sets Sights on Calder Cup Victory This Season
Laval Rocket Prepares for the 2025-26 Season with a Clear Objective
The Laval Rocket has made its intentions for the upcoming season unmistakably clear: they are not just aiming for a top finish but are setting the Calder Cup as their ultimate goal. This ambitious target was established right from the beginning of their training camp, following the team’s earlier struggle in the Eastern Conference finals against the Charlotte Checkers four months ago.
Building a Playoff Mentality Early On
Head Coach Pascal Vincent emphasizes the importance of instilling a playoff mentality as a key strategy for achieving success throughout the season. “I talk about the Calder Cup every day,” Vincent explained. “It’s crucial to develop work ethic, habits, and a playing style that leads to success in the playoffs. The aim is to have the confidence to execute an effective style when it counts, keeping the players in a state of urgency.”
Despite concerns that maintaining a competitive level for six months could be exhausting, players seem invigorated by the challenge. Forward Florian Xhekaj expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “If it’s what Vincent wants, I love it. We all want to be in the playoffs and go far. It’s the style of play I try to exhibit every night.”
Experienced Roster Ready to Showcase Their Identity
Owen Beck highlighted the team’s evolution since last season, with the roster now boasting more experience and an established team identity. “We didn’t know if everyone would perform last season, and I think we exceeded expectations. We need to showcase our identity now,” Beck added.
Strong Track Record in Winnipeg
The Rocket will launch their 2025-26 campaign in Winnipeg against the Manitoba Moose, with games scheduled for Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. Historically, Winnipeg has been a favorable venue for the team, boasting a 10-0-2 record in their last 12 visits dating back to January 19, 2020.
Moreover, the Laval squad is entering the season with momentum from two consecutive victories in pre-season matches held in Belleville last weekend, where they effectively applied their coach’s strategies.
Solidarity on and Off the Ice
While the road trip to Manitoba might not be the most exotic, it offers an opportunity for team bonding and unity. On the ice, the Rocket plans to maintain its playing style despite being on the road. As Vincent noted, “There will be adjustments to my bench management, but our playing style remains the same. Whether we start at home or away, a trip like this helps us bond.”
Following their games in Manitoba, the Laval Rocket will return home to face the Abbotsford Canucks, last year’s Calder Cup champions, providing an early test of their championship aspirations.
