Hillsdale Academy and Jonesville Progress to Next Stage of District Soccer Playoffs

Hillsdale County Soccer District Wrap-Up: Exciting Semifinals Await
Hillsdale Academy Colts Dominate in Soccer Playoffs
The Hillsdale Academy Colts have made a strong statement in the District 57 soccer playoffs by defeating Will Carleton Academy with an emphatic 8-0 victory. The match took place at Hayden Park, where the Colts capitalized on their home advantage to outplay the Cougars. Despite a spirited first-half defense by the Cougars, led by freshman goalkeeper Max Maier, the Colts secured a 3-0 lead at halftime and sealed the win in the second half.
Coach Neal Brady’s team now sets sights on claiming their sixth consecutive district title. Their next challenge will be against the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans, who advanced with a 5-1 victory over Dansville. The semifinal showdown is slated for Monday, Oct. 13, at 5:30 p.m. back at Hayden Park.
Farewell to Will Carleton Academy Seniors
This marks the end of the season for Will Carleton Academy, with the team finishing with a 6-9-1 record. Senior players Jeremiah Gadelkarim and James Johnson, who also played in the co-op football team at North Adams-Jerome, concluded their high school soccer careers.
Throughout the season, the Cougars exhibited strong performances, including a stretch where they conceded only three goals across four consecutive victories.
Jonesville Comets Secure Milestone Victory
The Jonesville varsity boys soccer team, led by coach Jeff Dice, has achieved their first winning season in over a decade with a crucial 2-1 victory over Leslie. This marks their 12th win of the season, as they advance to the district semifinals. Landon Church opened the scoring for the Comets, while Charlie Spencer netted the winner with a second-half penalty.
Senior captain Marshall Baker highlighted the intensity of the match against Leslie: “They definitely played a lot harder than they did the other games. It was closer, but we both wanted it.”
With a 12-6-1 record, Jonesville is now preparing for a showdown against Jackson Christian, who secured an 8-0 win over Stockbridge. This pivotal match is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13, at 4:30 p.m.
Hillsdale’s Season Ends in Heartbreaking Loss
In a tight contest at Baumgarten Stadium, the Hillsdale Hornets fell to Michigan Center by a narrow 1-0 margin. Despite a strong second-half performance by senior goalkeeper Tydan Bible, the first-half goal by the Cardinals was sufficient to eliminate Hillsdale from the playoffs.
Seniors Kelton Philipp, Bible, Robert Garcia, Jonathan Tomasello, and exchange students Meebun Siriplubpla and Muhammad Rustmaov have played their final match in Hillsdale blue. However, the future looks promising under coach Chad Spratt, with several key players poised to return, including Aaron Torres, Austin Holden, Ty Spratt, and others.
