TfL Alerts Londoners: Expect Packed Underground Lines This Weekend Due to Event Disruptions

Transport Disruptions Expected in London Due to Major Events and Tube Line Closures

Residents and visitors in London should brace for significant transport disruptions this weekend, as the city plays host to two major events on Sunday, October 12. Both the NFL London match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Arsenal Women’s match against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium will kick off at 2.30 pm, coinciding with planned maintenance work on the London Underground.

Impact on Victoria and Piccadilly Lines During Weekend Events

Transport for London (TfL) has alerted passengers to expect the Victoria line to be extremely busy. This surge in demand is due to a closure on the Piccadilly line between Hammersmith and Cockfosters, scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. Consequently, many attendees of the Arsenal game will need to utilize alternative stations, such as Highbury and Islington or Finsbury Park, to access the Emirates Stadium, as Arsenal, Holloway Road, and Caledonian Road stations will not be accessible.

Challenges in Reaching Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Simultaneously, NFL fans heading to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the Denver Broncos face the New York Jets will also be affected by the Piccadilly line suspension. Increased foot traffic on the Victoria line is expected as both sets of fans seek alternative travel routes.

Additional TfL Closures and Alternatives

TfL has also confirmed additional disruptions across other lines:

  • Piccadilly Line: No services between Hammersmith and Cockfosters, and between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. The Friday and Saturday Night Tube are also affected. Passengers are advised to use alternative Tube services, local bus routes, or rail replacement buses.
  • Metropolitan Line: Services between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge will operate as usual.
  • DLR: No trains between West Ham and Woolwich Arsenal on both days due to maintenance. Travel alternatives include the Elizabeth line or local bus routes. Replacement buses will run between Canning Town and King George V, and no journeys will occur between Tower Gateway and Shadwell on Sunday.
  • Elizabeth Line: On Sunday, trains will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell, and West Ealing. Passengers should use other Tube services or local buses.
  • Suffragette Line: On Sunday, no services between Gospel Oak and Woodgrange Park until 9.45 am, with further closures until 2.30 pm between Woodgrange Park and Barking Riverside. Rail replacement buses will serve the affected areas.
