Keely Hodgkinson Shines at New York’s Iconic All-Female Athlos Meet

Dominant Season Finale for Keely Hodgkinson

The celebrated Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m season with an outstanding victory at the Athlos meet in New York, a unique all-female event, held on Friday evening. After clinching bronze at the World Championships last month, Hodgkinson displayed a stellar performance, clocking in at one minute 56.53 seconds. This impressive feat came despite having competed in only six races this season due to a hamstring injury.

Top Competitors Deliver Strong Performances

Joining Hodgkinson on the podium was Georgia Hunter Bell from Britain, who secured second place with a time of 1:58.33. Close behind was Shafiqua Maloney from St Vincent, who finished in 1:58.57. Hodgkinson, aged 23, expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “I’ve barely raced this season, so it was a great opportunity to go out there and give my best. The atmosphere was incredible and really made it a fun experience.”

Exclusive Event Elevates Traditional Track

The women-exclusive meet, now in its second year at Icahn Stadium, delivered a festive vibe with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns instead of traditional medals. Notable figures, including 23-time tennis major winner Serena Williams, were present, with Williams bestowing the winners with their crowns. Organized by Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, the event not only celebrated athleticism but also offered participants a prize purse of $60,000 (£44,603), one of the highest in athletics.

Star Athletes and Historic Victories

The meet attracted elite athletes, such as Kenya’s triple Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon, who triumphed in the mile event with a finish time of 4:17.78 minutes. Meanwhile, American sprinter Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the previous year’s Paris Olympics, achieved a remarkable double win, dominating both the 100m and 200m races.

With a mix of thrilling performances and a lively atmosphere, the Athlos meet has solidified its status as a premier event in women’s athletics. Emegypt remains dedicated to broadcasting such significant developments in the sporting world, bringing stories of athletic excellence to a global audience.
