Improved Race Experience as New Route Announced for Oxford Half Marathon

New Course Design Enhances Runner Experience

The organizers of the Oxford Half Marathon, Motiv Sports, have announced a change in the race’s starting location, aiming to enhance the runner experience and reduce early race congestion. According to Emily Whitaker from Motiv Sports, the updated route helps participants move out of the city’s core more quickly, allowing them to enjoy some of Oxford’s expansive roads and picturesque scenery sooner in the event.

Scenic Highlights of the 13.1-Mile Course

The 13.1-mile (21 km) course is renowned for its scenic passages through Oxford’s iconic architecture, alongside the serene River Cherwell, and through Old Marston village. These sights promise an engaging running experience, while the route’s changes ensure smoother navigation for both participants and city residents.

Strategic Changes to Start and Finish Lines

Adjustments include relocating the finish line from Parks Road to Mansfield Road. Consequently, portions of Mansfield Road and Savile Road will be closed starting at 12:00 on Saturday to accommodate race preparations. Additional closures on Sunday morning will affect Parks Road, Holywell Street, and Jowett Walk, beginning at 05:00.

Essential Information for Participants

Runners are advised to reach Oxford University Parks, the event village, by 08:30 ahead of the starting gun at 09:30. Organizers anticipate high usage of park and ride facilities and have introduced a race-specific option at Unipart House to ease access and parking issues.

Road Reopenings and Logistics

As participants progress along the course, most roads will be reopened following their passage. The final participant is expected to cross the finish line by 13:45, ensuring minimal disruption to local traffic.
