Hospital Launches New Fruit and Veg Stall in Response to Patient Feedback

Local Grocer Teams Up with Royal United Hospital

The Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath has introduced a new fresh produce stall, offering a convenient way for staff, patients, and visitors to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. This initiative is part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to support healthy living through accessible options.

Collaborative Effort to Promote Health and Wellness

In collaboration with Dean Cooper, owner of Wild About Fruit and Veg, the new stall is strategically located outside the Brownsword Therapies Centre at the hospital’s Combe Park site in Weston. Here, visitors can find a wide variety of produce ranging from everyday items like carrots and potatoes to exotic choices such as dragon fruit.

Operational Days and Popularity of the Stall

The fresh produce stall operates every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 10 AM to 3 PM and has quickly gained popularity among the hospital community. “Staff expressed a desire to pick up essentials conveniently during their day,” said Barry Fennell, Senior Catering Lead at RUH. “This collaboration allows us to bring healthy options directly to our front door.”

Accessible to the Entire Community

The stall is open to everyone, not just RUH employees or patients. Local residents are also encouraged to visit and purchase fresh produce. Dean Cooper and his team are planning to introduce innovative offerings, including fruit baskets ideal for patient gifts.

Enhancing Food and Drink Options at RUH

This addition is part of a broader effort to diversify food choices at the Royal United Hospital. Other available food facilities include:

  • Friends of the RUH Café: Provides hot and cold meals, drinks, and snacks for dine-in or take-away.
  • Lansdown Restaurant and Oasis Café: Offer a range of dining options within the hospital premises.
  • Friends of the RUH Shop: Stocks essentials such as tea, coffee, tinned goods, sandwiches, newspapers, magazines, and toiletries.

Additionally, two new coffee carts have been introduced at the RUH site in the past year, further enhancing the variety of options available to staff, patients, and visitors.
