Buffalo Bills Face Defensive Setbacks with Injuries to Key Players

Buffalo Bills’ Defense Hit by Injuries: Key Players on Injured Reserve

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are grappling with significant challenges on defense as head coach Sean McDermott announced Saturday that safety Damar Hamlin and rookie defensive tackle T.J. Sanders have been placed on injured reserve.

Hamlin sustained a pectoral injury during Thursday’s practice, a setback ahead of the team’s upcoming “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. In the meantime, T.J. Sanders is coping with a knee injury that kept him from participating in last week’s game against the New England Patriots. Sanders is scheduled to undergo knee surgery after the team assessed different options, but his condition showed no signs of improvement.

Uncertain Timelines for Recovery

When asked about the potential for these injuries to end their seasons, McDermott expressed uncertainty. “Don’t know on either of ’em really,” McDermott stated, adding, “Feel a little bit better about T.J. Damar is up in the air at this point.”

Hamlin has been serving as the team’s third safety and is a key player for special teams, while Sanders contributes to the defensive line rotation. As the Bills look to fill the void, they may consider promoting from within, with veterans Jordan Poyer and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips available from the practice squad. Additionally, rookie safety Jordan Hancock is an option for replacing Hamlin.

Further Setbacks with Matt Milano

The Bills will also be missing starting linebacker Matt Milano in Monday night’s game due to a pectoral injury sustained during the Patriots game. Milano had initially encountered this injury during Week 2, causing him to miss subsequent games. His return to the field was cut short last week when he had to exit at halftime.

Replacement Options Under Consideration

  • Safety: Jordan Poyer, Jordan Hancock
  • Defensive Tackle: Jordan Phillips

The Bills will have to strategize effectively as they face the Atlanta Falcons, ensuring they mitigate the impact of these critical injuries. Stay updated with more team news and coverage on Emegypt.
