Honoring a Cinematic Legend: The “Redford Remembered” Film Series

The Salt Lake Film Society has announced an exciting new event to honor the enduring legacy of Robert Redford, a legendary actor who profoundly influenced Utah’s film landscape. The society will host “Redford Remembered,” a month-long retrospective celebrating Redford’s life and cinematic achievements. The festivities will occur at Broadway Centre Cinemas in Salt Lake City, from November 2 to November 27.

Event Highlights: Iconic Films to Be Featured

The program will showcase 12 of Redford’s most acclaimed films, offering a unique opportunity for audiences to relive his remarkable contributions to cinema. The films will be screened throughout the month, with different titles featured daily. The selection includes:

  • “All is Lost” (2013)
  • “The Way We Were” (1973)
  • “The Great Waldo Pepper” (1975)
  • “Downhill Racer” (1969)
  • “The Natural” (1984)
  • “The Great Gatsby” (1974)
  • “Jeremiah Johnson” (1972)
  • “The Sting” (1973)
  • “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid” (1969)
  • “The Electric Horseman” (1979)
  • “The Candidate” (1972)

Continuing Legacy: More Tributes Planned

Tori A. Baker, President and CEO of the Salt Lake Film Society, expressed, “Robert Redford’s artistry shaped generations of cinemagoers, both through his legendary acting roles and his visionary leadership as founder of Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival. With ‘Redford Remembered,’ we’re celebrating the timeless power of his performances and the indelible mark he has left on American film and culture.” Tickets for the screenings can be purchased on the theater’s official website.

Future Celebrations and Long-lasting Impact

In addition to this event, another program highlighting Redford’s directorial work is slated for next year. Furthermore, the Sundance Film Festival plans to honor Redford with a special tribute during its final Utah event in 2026. Redford’s involvement with the festival began in the 1980s when Utah transferred the Utah/United States Film Festival to his Sundance Institute.

Following his passing, Robert Redford is remembered not only for his substantial contributions to film but also for his environmental efforts in Utah and his role in developing the Sundance Mountain Resort. Governor Spencer Cox reflected on his impact, stating, “Robert Redford came to Utah and fell in love with this place. He cherished our landscapes and built a legacy that made Utah a home for storytelling and creativity. Through Sundance and his devotion to conservation, he shared Utah with the world.”
