Greyserman Pursues First Victory in Japan Golf Tournament

Max Greyserman is in pursuit of his first PGA Tour victory in Japan. He currently leads the Baycurrent Classic, being held at the Yokohama Country Club, by four shots. Greyserman’s performance included an impressive 8-under 63, bringing his two-round total to 12-under 130.
Strong Competition at Baycurrent Classic
Challenging Greyserman for the title are Alex Smalley, Xander Schauffele, and Alex Noren, each making significant strides with scores of 65, 63, and 65, respectively. The tournament relocated to Yokohama this year from its previous location east of Tokyo.
A Brief History of the Tournament
This is the sole PGA Tour event in Japan, first held in 2019, where Tiger Woods claimed victory. Last year, Greyserman narrowly missed winning, losing by a single shot on the 72nd hole to Nico Echavarria.
- Greyserman: 8-under 63, 12-under 130 total
- Smalley, Schauffele, Noren: 4 shots behind
- Echavarria and others: 5 strokes behind
Course Conditions and Players’ Reactions
Schauffele bounced back from a tough first round where the weather conditions were challenging. The winds had calmed significantly, allowing him to capitalize on improved playability.
Japan’s Kazuki Higa delivered a remarkable performance on his first nine holes with an 8-under 28. However, he could not sustain the pace, ending his round with a 64, placing him six strokes off the lead.
Meanwhile, Colin Morikawa, also part of the recent U.S. Ryder Cup team with Schauffele, scored a 3-under 68, currently nine strokes behind.
Looking Forward
Greyserman remains focused and aims to maintain his lead by replicating his initial success. With the memory of last year’s defeat still in mind, the tournament finale is poised to be an intense conclusion to this sole PGA event in Japan.
