Winter Weather Alert: Snow Expected on Interior Highways This Long Weekend

This Thanksgiving long weekend, travelers to the British Columbia Interior should prepare for winter conditions on the roads. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, highlighting the potential for snowfall on high-elevation highways.
Winter Weather Alert: Snow Expected on Interior Highways
Higher elevation highway passes such as the Okanagan Connector, which connects Merritt and Kelowna, and Allison Pass, linking Hope to Princeton, are particularly affected. A cold front is forecast to move through the region starting Saturday afternoon.
The weather service indicates that temperatures are expected to drop rapidly, with moisture moving in from an upper-level low over Washington state. This combination is likely to result in snow accumulation.
Snow Accumulation and Conditions
- Expected snowfall: 2 to 10 centimeters
- Reduced visibility on affected highways
The special weather statement will be in effect from Saturday afternoon and will extend through Thanksgiving Monday. Motorists are advised to equip their vehicles with winter tires and drive cautiously in these conditions.
