As Thanksgiving 2023 approaches, residents of the Waterloo Region should prepare for a variety of service changes and closures on Monday, October 13. Many facilities and services will be affected due to the holiday, ensuring that residents can plan accordingly.

Service Disruptions and Closures for Thanksgiving 2023

Retail and Attractions

  • Most grocery stores will be closed on Monday.
  • Shopping malls will not be open.
  • Several drug stores will operate as normal.
  • Both LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed.
  • Some Wine Rack locations will remain open.
  • The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Schneider Haus National Historic Site will welcome visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • McDougall Cottage Historic Site will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Client Services

  • All regional offices, including Airport Administrative and Home Child Care offices, will be closed.
  • The Service First Call Centre will remain available 24/7 for inquiries.

Waste Collection

  • Curbside pickup for green bins, garbage, and recycling will proceed as scheduled.
  • Transfer stations at the Cambridge and Waterloo Waste Management sites will be closed on October 13.

Transit Services Impact

  • Grand River Transit will operate on a holiday schedule.
  • MobilityPLUS trips will automatically be cancelled for the holiday.

  • Routes 1, 6, 8, 20, and 204 will experience detours during the Oktoberfest Parade from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
