Jeeno Thitikul Clinches Thrilling LPGA Shanghai Victory After Intense 5-Hole Playoff

Jeeno Thitikul emerged victorious at the LPGA Shanghai after an intense battle that concluded with a thrilling five-hole playoff. Starting the final round four shots behind, Thitikul managed a stunning comeback to secure her second win of the season.

Thitikul’s Spectacular Comeback

Thitikul shot a remarkable round of 63, featuring seven birdies and an eagle, finishing with a 24-under 264. The Thai star caught up with overnight leader Minami Katsu, who began her day with a two-shot lead and expanded it to four midway through the round at Qizhong Garden Golf Club in Shanghai.

Dramatic Playoff Decides the Winner

The duo went head-to-head in a playoff after Katsu narrowly missed a birdie on the final hole. Pars were exchanged over four playoff holes. However, on the fifth, Thitikul’s excellent approach left her a simple birdie chance, which she converted effortlessly after Katsu’s attempt fell short.

Culmination of a Season’s Effort

This victory follows Thitikul’s success at the Mizuho Americas Open in May, bringing satisfaction after a recent disappointment at the Kroger Queen City Championship. Reflecting on her success, Thitikul expressed the fulfillment of overcoming past challenges.

Other Standout Performances

  • Minjee Lee of Australia secured third place with a score of 19-under 269.
  • Jenny Bae (USA), Miyu Yamashita (Japan), and Somi Lee (South Korea) tied for fourth at 17-under 271.
  • Defending champion Ruoning Yin of China tied for 26th after a round of 68.
