Family Honors Spirited Young Warrior After Tragic Passing at Age Five

Community members have come together to honor Luna Ivy Webster, a spirited five-year-old girl from Medway, who tragically passed away on October 4. Luna, described as “thoughtful and sassy,” brought joy to everyone around her.

Family and Fundraising Efforts

In just one week, over £6,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe campaign to assist Luna’s family with funeral expenses. Her mother, Jess Gardner, is currently pregnant with her second child, and her friend Aimee Riddell is leading the fundraising efforts. Aimee shared that the funds will help alleviate financial pressures during this challenging time.

A Bright Light

• Luna was a vibrant child, known for her creativity and love for singing.
• Her favorite character was Stitch from “Lilo and Stitch,” and she enjoyed K-Pop music.
• She exhibited natural nurturing qualities, often caring for her numerous baby dolls.

Luna was diagnosed at birth with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare heart condition affecting 1 in 5,000 babies. This condition obstructs normal heart function, requiring multiple surgeries from an early age.

Medical Journey and Last Days

Jess faced significant challenges during her pregnancy, including an emergency C-section at 35 weeks. Luna underwent numerous medical procedures, including the Norwood and Glenn surgeries within her first year. Most recently, she had the Fontan procedure on September 23, intended to improve her life expectancy.

Tragically, Luna passed away shortly afterward, just one month shy of her sixth birthday on November 5. Her friend Aimee reflected on the profound impact Luna had on the lives of those around her and expressed the deep sorrow felt by her community.

Support for the Family

As friends and family mourn, the GoFundMe campaign continues to grow, currently nearing its target of £7,500. Aimee emphasized that the contributions not only assist with funeral costs but also demonstrate the love and support Luna inspired in her short life.

“Luna was loved by many, especially by her devoted mother, Jess. The loss is immeasurable, and we are all heartbroken,” Aimee stated.
