Iranian Foreign Minister Affirms Tehran’s Permanent Stance Against Joining Abraham Accords

In a recent statement, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi firmly reiterated Tehran’s long-standing position against signing the Abraham Accords. He described these agreements as incompatible with the Iranian regime’s principles, declaring that Iran will never engage in peace agreements with Israel.

Iran’s Stance on the Abraham Accords

During an interview with state-run IRINN on October 11, Araghchi responded to comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s potential participation in the accords. He remarked that Trump often articulates his own interests in various ways. Furthermore, he labeled the Abraham Accords as “treacherous.”

Rejection of Normalization Efforts

Iranian officials have consistently dismissed the possibility of joining the Abraham Accords, a sentiment echoed by Araghchi. Despite Trump’s optimistic comments during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 29, the Iranian regime’s position remains unchanged.

  • Iran will not join peace agreements with Israel.
  • Abraham Accords deemed “treacherous” by Iranian officials.
  • Ceasefire in Gaza supported, but distrust in Israel emphasized.

Details on Gaza Ceasefire and Regional Relations

In discussing the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Araghchi expressed support for a ceasefire but criticized Israel for past violations. He noted that over 50% of Gaza remains occupied by Israeli forces, contradicting peace efforts. Tehran has pledged ongoing support for Palestinian resistance.

Trump’s Interpretation of Iran’s Position

Addressing Trump’s interpretation of Iran’s support for a ceasefire, Araghchi stated that the U.S. President’s view was his own. He clarified that Iran is straightforward in its backing of ceasefire measures to halt violence in Gaza.

No Ongoing Negotiations with the U.S.

During the interview, Araghchi denied any recent communications or negotiations with the United States. He emphasized that Iran’s discussions with the U.S. have historically been focused solely on nuclear issues, distancing them from regional matters.

  • No ongoing talks with the U.S. regarding non-nuclear issues.
  • Iranian officials firmly reject any connection between regional issues and nuclear negotiations.

International Atomic Energy Agency Agreement Status

Araghchi also mentioned the suspension of the Cairo agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating it has lost effectiveness. He asserted that any inspection requests from the IAEA will be reviewed in accordance with Iranian law.

Furthermore, he responded to the potential reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran, indicating that any inspections of Iranian ships would be met with a reciprocal response.
