Comiccon de Québec: des milliers de personnes célèbrent la culture populaire dans la capitale

Thousands of fans gathered at the Centre des congrès for the annual Comiccon de Québec, celebrating popular culture. This event featured a vibrant mix of anime, video games, cosplay, manga, and comic books. Alexis Bois, a longtime attendee, highlighted the occasion as a chance for fans to express themselves freely.

Excitement in the Air

Many attendees arrived early to explore the numerous booths showcasing artworks, figurines, and merchandise related to various geek franchises. Zara Laurier and her friends, Maximilien Marchildon and Charles-Olivier Lavoie-Parent, have made attending the event a tradition since they were 12. “It’s a must for us to see the artists and new merchandise,” Laurier noted, arriving in cosplay as Hatsune Miku, a popular virtual singer.

Demon Slayer Takes Center Stage

This year, the spotlight was on the hit film *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle*. Released in September, the movie broke global box office records, surpassing $600 million. Several attendees dressed as characters from the film, reflecting its immense popularity.

  • Box office earnings: Over $600 million worldwide
  • Release date: September 2023

The organizers even scheduled a cosplay showcase themed around the film, similar to their past events dedicated to franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC Comics, and Pokémon.

The Rise of KPop Demon Hunters

Another notable mention was the Netflix production *KPop Demon Hunters*, which also captured significant attention among attendees. “Demon characters are trending this year. It’s impressive to see,” remarked Charles-Olivier Lavoie-Parent.

Passing the Torch

Many parents brought their children to Comiccon, hoping to ignite their interest in pop culture. Michael Beck and his friend Michael Leclerc-Gauthier expressed the importance of introducing their kids to this vibrant culture at a young age. Leclerc-Gauthier, while attending with his young daughter Florence, said, “It’s delightful to share this experience with her.”

Beck emphasized the joy of participating in the event with his daughter Ellie. “It’s a new experience for both of us. We want to pass on our passion,” he concluded.

As the event continues to grow, Comiccon de Québec remains a pivotal gathering for enthusiasts, ensuring that the love for pop culture persists through generations.
