Ex-Gonzaga Star Drew Timme Released by Brooklyn Nets

Former Gonzaga star Drew Timme has been released by the Brooklyn Nets. Despite his strong performances at the end of last season and in the NBA Summer League, Timme is no longer with the team.
Nets’ Roster Adjustments
Along with Timme, the Nets waived guard Dariq Whitehead. This decision comes just a week before the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. The team’s roster management was a significant factor, as teams are limited to 18 players. This includes 15 on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts.
Challenges in Brooklyn
Brooklyn selected five new players in the NBA draft, with four of them in the first round. Timme was considered the fourth option at center. Nic Claxton, Day’Ron Sharpe, and rookie Danny Wolf were ahead of him in the lineup. Wolf was picked 27th overall in the 2025 draft.
Impressive Performances
Despite the challenges, Timme showcased his skills during his time with the G League Long Island Nets. He averaged 23.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He was later called up to Brooklyn for the final nine games of the regular season.
- Average: 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists
- Shooting: 44% from the field
Timme recorded a double-double in his debut against the Los Angeles Clippers. He achieved a season-high of 19 points in a win against the Washington Wizards.
Summer League Performance
Timme continued to thrive in the NBA Summer League, held in Las Vegas, averaging 25.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists over three games. His scoring average was second only to Utah’s Kyle Filipowski.
Previous Career Highlights
Timme earned All-American honors in three consecutive seasons at Gonzaga. Although he went undrafted in 2023, he joined the Milwaukee Bucks as an undrafted free agent. He played for the G League Wisconsin Herd before a foot injury ended his season. After limited appearances with Sacramento’s G League affiliate, he was traded to the Long Island Nets in December 2024.
Now released by Brooklyn, Timme is eligible for pickup on waivers before the regular season’s commencement on October 21.
