Elder Gary E Stevenson Celebrates Dedication of Elko Nevada Temple

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the Elko Nevada Temple on October 12, 2025. This event marked a historic moment for the area, emphasizing the temple’s significance for local families and communities.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson’s Testimony

During the dedication, Elder Stevenson highlighted the vital role temples play in strengthening family bonds. He stated, “Temples bless the lives of millions of Heavenly Father’s children on both sides of the veil.” His remarks come amidst global turmoil, reminding attendees of the divine continuity of leadership within the Church.

Historical Context

This dedication took place in the context of ongoing leadership transitions within the Church. Elder Stevenson noted the previous instance of a temple dedication during an apostolic interregnum occurred in 1888. The Manti Utah Temple was dedicated then under the leadership of President Wilford Woodruff.

Leadership and Direction

Elder Stevenson expressed gratitude for the guidance of President Dallin H. Oaks, currently the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He underscored the importance of President Oaks’ teachings regarding temple covenants and blessings, which were prominently conveyed in the April 2022 General Conference.

Community Impact of the Elko Nevada Temple

  • The temple serves approximately 12,000 members across 36 wards.
  • Its district encompasses communities in six counties, covering nearly half of Nevada.
  • Elko leaders expressed enthusiasm for the temple as a sanctuary for the rising generation.

Elko Nevada East Stake President Mathew N. Spieth remarked on the temple’s significance for youth, noting it already feels like home. His counterpart, Elko Nevada West Stake President Alberto Jimenez, spoke of the profound influence the temple will have on the community.

Temple Dedication Details

The Elko Nevada Temple was among the 20 temples announced during the April 2021 General Conference by the late President Russell M. Nelson. The temple’s open house previewed from August 30 to September 13, 2025, before the dedication ceremony.

A Glimpse at Nevada’s Temples

This temple is Nevada’s third operational temple, joining the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, dedicated in December 1989, and the Reno Nevada Temple, dedicated in April 2000. Another temple, the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple, was announced in October 2022, with ground broken on September 25, 2025.

The Elko Nevada Temple stands as a beacon of faith and community, illustrating the Church’s growth and commitment to serving its members in Nevada and beyond.
