UDOT enhances safety by installing new traffic light at Coyote Ridge intersection in Heber

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is set to enhance safety with a newly installed traffic light at the intersection of Coyote Canyon Parkway and U.S. 40. This traffic signal, located near the Coyote Ridge neighborhood, is expected to be operational by the end of the week.

Traffic Light Installation Details

UDOT regional spokesperson Wyatt Woolley provided updates about the installation. Currently, a few final steps need to be completed before the traffic light can be activated. These include:

  • Allowing the area to dry out.
  • Painting necessary road markings.
  • Conducting operational tests.

According to Woolley, the traffic light should be fully functional by Friday, October 13, barring any unexpected delays. If any issues arise, activation may be postponed to the following week.

Safety Improvements for Drivers

The introduction of this traffic signal aims to improve safety, particularly for residents making left turns into and out of the neighborhood. A survey conducted by UDOT earlier this summer revealed concerning statistics. Nearly 70% of drivers in Wasatch County reported experiencing close calls on north U.S. 40. Many highlighted dangerous left turns and instances of vehicles crossing the center line as significant concerns.

Future Safety Considerations

In addition to the traffic light, UDOT is exploring the possibility of installing concrete barriers down the center of U.S. 40. This measure could further enhance safety along this busy stretch of highway.
