Palm Beach Prepares for Simulated Gunfire and Road Closures Amid Trump’s Million-Dollar-Per-Head Event

Palm Beach is gearing up for increased security activity around Mar-a-Lago due to an upcoming event hosted by former President Donald Trump. The high-profile fundraiser, which charges $1 million per attendee, necessitates extensive preparatory measures.
Simulated Gunfire and Training Drills
Residents of Palm Beach will notice a spike in law enforcement activities owing to scheduled training exercises by the U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement. Taking place on the evening of October 14 and throughout the day on October 15, these exercises will include simulated gunfire and an enhanced police presence around Mar-a-Lago.
Though these drills involve significant security activity, they will not require road closures. However, sidewalks near the Mar-a-Lago complex and the parking area by the Southern Boulevard Bridge will see temporary closures. The public and media will not have access to these exercises.
Road Closures and Traffic Plans
While training exercises are underway, roads won’t be closed. Yet, starting October 17 at 5 a.m., South Ocean Boulevard (SR A1A) will be closed between South County Road and Southern Boulevard (SR 80). This road closure will last until further notice.
- Checkpoints will operate along the closed portions.
- Maritime security zones will be implemented temporarily.
- Bridge opening schedules will be adjusted to accommodate traffic changes.
The Town’s Planned Traffic Impacts webpage provides detailed information on procedures relating to these changes. Residents are advised to consult this resource to stay informed on traffic adjustments.
