Currently, Port Adelaide’s next entry into the draft is slated for Pick 49. They are willing to negotiate this selection in exchange for additional draft picks in the 2026 AFL Draft.

Current Draft Situation

The Alberton side traded away their first-round pick to Gold Coast last season. Recently, they combined their second and fourth-round picks in a trade that brought Corey Durdin from Carlton. A separate transaction allowed the Power to acquire Will Brodie using their sixth-round pick, No. 103.

  • Current picks for 2025: 49 (third round) and 85 (fifth round)
  • Willing to trade Pick 49 for better 2026 opportunities

Club’s Strategy Moving Forward

Jason Cripps, the Power’s list manager, announced their intention to enhance draft capital for 2026 and 2027. He emphasized the need to accumulate multiple picks due to the compromised nature of this year’s draft.

“We want to load up with as much draft capital as possible,” Cripps stated. He indicated that the focus is on long-term talent acquisition with potential Academy players on the horizon.

Future Prospects

Discussions regarding Dougie Cochrane, a top contender for Pick 1, are ongoing. Port Adelaide aims to integrate him into their Next Generation Academy. The club also has strategic plans for other young talents such as:

  • Louis Salopek (father-son)
  • Tevita Rodan (father-son)
  • Zemes Pilot (NGA)

Cochrane’s family is supportive of this move, and talks with the AFL are underway. Cripps noted, “It’s pending. That’s a process we’re working through with the AFL.”

In addition to pursuing Cochrane, the club plans to elevate several players from their rookie list to primary positions, including Tom Cochrane, Harrison Ramm, and Josh Lai.
