Christian Petracca has officially joined the Gold Coast Suns from the Melbourne Demons. This significant player movement was finalized on deadline day, marking a pivotal moment in the 2025 AFL season.
Trade Details of Christian Petracca’s Move
The Suns acquired the four-time All-Australian and Norm Smith medallist in exchange for substantial draft picks. As part of the deal, Melbourne received:
- 2025 Round One Pick 7
- 2025 Round One Pick 8
- 2025 Round Two Pick 37
- 2026 Round One Pick (Gold Coast)
- 2027 Round Three Pick (Gold Coast)
In return, Gold Coast obtained Petracca along with 2025 Round Two Picks 24 and 28, as well as Melbourne’s 2026 second-round pick.

Craig Cameron, the general manager of player talent and strategy for Gold Coast, emphasized Petracca’s fit within the team. He stated that securing high-quality, experienced players was a priority, especially after the Suns progressed to the finals for the first time this year.

Petracca’s Legacy with the Demons
At 29 years old, Petracca leaves a notable legacy after 212 games with Melbourne. He was drafted as the second overall pick in 2014. His contributions were crucial in ending a 57-year premiership drought for the Demons during the 2021 Grand Final.
