Lions Reveal Timeline for Injured Defensive Players’ Comeback

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell shared key updates about injured defensive players during a press session. Marcus Davenport, a vital pass rusher, has been missing from the lineup since Week 2 following a shoulder injury. Although eligible to return from the injured reserve, his comeback seems unlikely before the team’s bye week. Campbell confirmed that Davenport is making good progress but will not be ready soon. He noted the promising outlook for the end of November and December.
Update on Davenport’s Recovery
Davenport has been actively engaged at the team’s facility and is no longer using a sling. Despite his absence, he has contributed five tackles and one sack in the limited two games played this season. The team is currently managing with a reduced pass-rush rotation due to Davenport’s continued leave.
Rodriguez Nears Return
In a different update, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is making strides toward rejoining the lineup. Campbell expressed optimism that Rodriguez could return to the field post-bye week. Rodriguez has been recovering from an ACL tear sustained during a Week 13 game against the Chicago Bears last season. Reports from the Detroit Football Network mentioned that Rodriguez underwent a second surgery over the summer to clear scar tissue.
Upcoming Challenges for the Lions
The Lions hope to have Davenport and Rodriguez back for crucial upcoming games. Their return is particularly desired for a challenging series following the bye week against Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Washington. Although having these players for the Monday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be advantageous, the focus remains on their full health and readiness.
