World Champion Supports Zak Brown Amid McLaren’s Remarkable Growth

Former Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen has expressed strong support for Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren. Häkkinen, a two-time champion with McLaren, highlighted the impressive growth of the team under Brown’s leadership. The Woking-based squad recently secured its second consecutive Constructors’ Championship, signaling a significant return to form after a prolonged period of less competitive seasons.

Häkkinen Commends McLaren’s Progress

Speaking at the Festival dello Sport event, Häkkinen emphasized the advancements made by McLaren during Brown’s tenure. “The team has grown tremendously by putting together everything it needs,” he stated. He acknowledged that the demands of modern F1 are far more complex than during his racing days.

“It requires much more communication,” he added, praising Brown for effectively managing the challenges faced by the team. The presence of two young drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, adds to the dynamic environment of the team, with Norris gaining significant experience over the season.

Current Drivers’ Championship Landscape

While McLaren has secured the Constructors’ title, the battle for the Drivers’ Championship continues. Oscar Piastri currently leads teammate Lando Norris by 22 points. Following them, Max Verstappen is in third place, 63 points behind Piastri. The latest standings are:

  • Lando Norris: 314 points
  • Max Verstappen: 273 points

Upcoming Challenges

The F1 season continues with the upcoming United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. With a Sprint race scheduled, a total of 33 points are available to be earned in Texas. As McLaren enjoys its resurgence, all eyes will be on the championship race as it unfolds.
