John McDonald, aged 65, has been a staple in the competitive darts scene since he succeeded Phil Jones as the Master of Ceremonies in 2007. Over the past 18 years, he has become a familiar presence, introducing players and leading on-stage ceremonies at pivotal events.

Before his role in darts, McDonald had a diverse career. He previously worked as a news photographer and spent several years as a sports MC across boxing, snooker, and pool.

Reflecting on his departure, McDonald shared, “I’ve spent two decades now working with the PDC and loved every moment. The time is right for me to hang up my microphone.” He considers the World Championship finale a fitting conclusion to his career.

George Noble: A Referee’s Legacy

Alongside McDonald, George Noble has also declared his intention to retire. Over his remarkable two-decade career with the PDC, he has officiated at more than 300 major tournaments, including an impressive 20 World Championships.

  • He had previously led refereeing at the BDO before transitioning to the PDC in 2007.

Noble expressed gratitude towards the PDC for his fruitful career, saying, “The sport has given me so many wonderful memories.” He looks forward to spending more time with his family while remaining involved in the darts community.
