Dallin H. Oaks Becomes 18th President of the Church of Jesus Christ

Dallin H. Oaks has been appointed as the 18th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This significant announcement occurred on October 14, 2025, during a live broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah. Oaks succeeds Russell M. Nelson, who passed away on September 27, 2025.
Dallin H. Oaks: A New Leader for the Faith
At 93 years old, President Oaks brings extensive experience to his new role. He has served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since May 1984. Before that, he was the president of Brigham Young University from 1971 to 1980 and a justice of the Utah Supreme Court until 1984.
Key Appointments
With President Oaks’ induction, he has appointed two counselors:
- Henry B. Eyring (First Counselor): A member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since April 1, 1995, Eyring previously served under three Church Presidents, including Russell M. Nelson.
- D. Todd Christofferson (Second Counselor): Christofferson joined the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on April 5, 2008, and has a legal background in corporate law.
Additionally, Jeffrey R. Holland, previously the Acting President of the Quorum, will continue in this capacity.
