New UK Visa Requirement for Botswana Travelers Unveiled
The UK has announced new visa requirements for travelers from Botswana, starting October 14, 2023. Citizens of Botswana will no longer be able to use the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system. Instead, they must apply for a Standard Visitor Visa to enter the UK.

Transition Period for Existing Bookings
- Travellers who obtained an ETA with a confirmed UK booking before 3 PM on October 14, 2023, are granted a transition period.
- This transition allows them to travel to the UK until 3 PM on November 25, 2023.
Reasons for the New Visa Policy
The UK government cited a significant increase in asylum claims from Botswana since 2022 as a primary reason for this adjustment. The new requirements aim to regulate the growing number of visitors from Botswana who are traveling for purposes inconsistent with visa regulations.
