Shane Lowry Finds Delhi Car Horns More Tolerable Than Noisy Ryder Cup Crowd in New York

Shane Lowry has expressed that navigating the chaotic traffic noises of Delhi is more tolerable than enduring the raucous crowds at the Ryder Cup in New York. On the opening day of the DP World India Championship, Lowry showcased exceptional skill, logging eight birdies and finishing with a bogey-free score of eight-under 64. His performance propelled him past the previous leader, Keita Nakajima, by a single stroke.

Shane Lowry’s Stellar Performance

Lowry, playing alongside European team captain Luke Donald and teammate Tommy Fleetwood, enjoyed a successful day on the course. He accumulated five consecutive birdies on the back nine while contending with the vibrant honking of Delhi’s traffic.

Comments on Competition

“It was a really nice group. We had a great time, and I rolled off a few more birdies than they did,” said Lowry. He noted that the traffic sounds were far less distracting than the crowd noise he experienced at Bethpage during the Ryder Cup. Lowry also mentioned that although there was casual conversation about the Ryder Cup, their competitive instincts remained strong.

Fleetwood and Donald Perform Well

  • Tommy Fleetwood and Luke Donald both finished with scores of four-under.
  • Rory McIlroy, another Ryder Cup team member, was five shots behind the leaders.

Rory McIlroy’s Round

McIlroy opted not to use his driver due to the tight course layout but still managed six birdies. However, he also encountered three bogeys throughout his round, finishing with a score of three-under 69.

McIlroy reflected on his club choice, saying, “The driver was probably asleep in the locker.” He explained his conservative approach and stated that he aimed to capitalize on birdies from the par-fives.

With the tournament still in progress, the competition is heating up as players vie for top spots against the challenging backdrop of the DP World India Championship.
