A Memorable Experience with Angela Lansbury: A Personal Journey

A call from a former manager in 2006 transformed my life. Shortly after being laid off from a television talk show, I received an unexpected offer. A colleague of his was seeking an assistant for a well-known actress.

A Memorable Experience with Angela Lansbury

To my surprise, it was Angela Lansbury herself who contacted me. She sought assistance while preparing to star in the Terrence McNally play “Deuce” at the Music Box Theatre in New York City.

Our first conversation led to an invitation for afternoon tea, which turned into a formal job offer. I was to help her manage day-to-day tasks such as setting up a new apartment, attending interviews, and keeping her schedule organized.

A Personal Journey

In 2006, I was a 24-year-old living in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Previously employed at a TV production company, I was trying to find my way after several major life changes.

  • Graduated from college near Ground Zero post-9/11.
  • Worked for Maury Povich’s production company.
  • Produced a stand-up comedy show with minimal pay.
  • Struggled to adjust as close friends moved away.

Angela Lansbury’s offer of work became more than a job—it was a path towards a new social circle and a nearly two-decade friendship. Her return to the Broadway stage was significant for both of us, marking a memorable turning point in my own journey.
