RBI League Teens Conclude Season with Exciting Showcase Games at Fenway Park

On September 18, the RBI League’s baseball and softball season concluded with an electrifying showcase at Fenway Park. Sponsored by Nike, this event brought numerous young athletes from the Red Sox Foundation’s RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) League to the iconic stadium.
Highlights of the RBI League Showcase
The showcase featured several exhilarating moments, particularly a memorable exchange between twins Dylan and Jack Kelly. During the game, Dylan, playing as a catcher, successfully threw out Jack as he attempted to steal second base. Jack then retaliated by catching Dylan attempting to advance to third base. Their playful rivalry was a testament to their lifelong connection and competitive spirit.
A Life-Changing Experience
For the Kelly twins, the opportunity to play at Fenway Park was a dream come true. Raised in a family passionate about baseball, they often watched Red Sox games and traveled to various stadiums. Participating in the showcase, which included interviews by the MLB Network, left a lasting impact on both players.
The Role of the Red Sox Foundation
The Red Sox Foundation has been instrumental in supporting the RBI League. The league operates from May to September, offering numerous games across the city. This year, the Foundation organized a unique showcase event to highlight players who demonstrated exceptional skills as well as leadership and teamwork.
Event Details
On showcase day, players attended a Red Sox game against the Oakland Athletics before participating in the showcase activities. They received special “City Connect” uniforms and enjoyed a dinner hosted by Foundation Director Bekah Salwasser, a resident of Dorchester. Players were divided into two teams, coached by former Red Sox players and local coaches.
Development Through Competition
Both Jack and Dylan began their baseball journeys in T-ball at Savin Hill and progressed through Dorchester Baseball. This summer, they played for the Jamaica Plain Giants, gaining valuable experience and serving as leaders on their team. Dylan noted how participating in the RBI League allowed them to practice with older, more experienced players.
Future Aspirations
Currently, the Kelly twins are partaking in “Fall Ball” with their Boston Latin School team, aiming for positions on the varsity team next spring. They look forward to continuing their journey with the RBI League in the coming summer. Their experiences exemplify how the RBI League fosters talent and community spirit among young athletes.
