Ex-Red poised for potential Sydney FC debut appearance
Ben Garuccio, a former defender for Adelaide United, may soon debut for Sydney FC against his old team on Friday night. Although he recently joined the Sky Blues, his fitness is still in progress following a disrupted pre-season.
Potential Debut for Ben Garuccio
Garuccio, 30, signed with Sydney FC less than a month ago. He was among several players from Western United who were left seeking new teams after the club faced financial troubles and was excluded from the 2025-26 A-League competition.
Sydney FC coach Ufuk Talay addressed Garuccio’s fitness on Wednesday. He mentioned the club was cautious about rushing him back into action to avoid any setbacks. Despite this, Garuccio was part of an extended 19-man squad traveling to his home state of South Australia for the match.

Alongside Garuccio, other new players could also be making their competitive debuts for Sydney FC. This includes:
- Victor Campuzano – Spanish striker
- Piero Quispe – Peruvian attacking midfielder
- Marcel Tisserand – Congo international defender
Defensive Reinforcements
Tisserand, a 32-year-old center-back, has been brought in to address Sydney’s defensive challenges from the previous season. Coach Talay expressed optimism about Tisserand’s readiness and leadership potential.
“He’s been with us for about eight weeks now, and we’ve got him to a really good place,” Talay stated. He emphasized the importance of Tisserand’s experience for both the team’s youngsters and overall performance.
