In a recent case of armed home invasion in Odessa, Florida, suspects reportedly used an Apple AirTag to track their victims. This incident, which took place on the night of August 19, involved tracking a vehicle to a residence’s driveway. Authorities have apprehended two individuals in connection with this crime.
Details of the Home Invasion
The suspects affixed an AirTag beneath the victims’ SUV, enabling them to follow it to the home. Surveillance footage revealed the assailants forcing a couple into their garage after arriving home. The situation escalated when a house alarm triggered, prompting the suspects to flee the scene.
Tracking Culprits Leads to Arrests
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office utilized available technology to track and arrest the individuals responsible. The suspects registered the AirTag with personal information, which aided law enforcement in identifying them through video footage.
On October 8, authorities arrested Luis Charles in Tampa. Subsequently, two days later, Omardy Maldonado-Rodriguez was apprehended in Pasco County. Both individuals face charges of armed kidnapping and armed burglary.
