BYD Issues Recall for Over 115,000 Tang and Yuan Pro Electric Vehicles in China

BYD is taking significant safety measures by recalling over 115,000 Tang and Yuan Pro electric vehicles in China. This decision was prompted by safety concerns identified in multiple vehicle models spanning several production years.

Details of the Recall

The recall involves a total of 115,783 units, broken down into two main categories:

  • Tang Series: 44,535 units from the 2015 model year.
  • Yuan Pro: 71,248 units produced between 2021 and 2022.

Issues with the Tang Series

The 2015 Tang series vehicles, manufactured from March 28, 2015, to July 28, 2017, face a risk due to potential failures in pure electric drive mode. This issue stems from component design flaws that might affect the drive motor controller’s active discharge function, leading to possible circuit board burnout.

Concerns Regarding the Yuan Pro

The Yuan Pro electric vehicles were produced between February 6, 2021, and August 5, 2022. Several units may have improper battery seal installations. This defect raises the risk of water entering the power battery when the vehicle is driven through water at high speeds for extended periods. Such water ingress could compromise the battery’s insulation and reduce its output, creating serious safety hazards.

Context and Conclusion

The Tang and Yuan Pro models are part of BYD’s Dynasty series, which continues to evolve with new electric and hybrid models. While the company focuses on ensuring the safety of its vehicles, it remains pivotal in the new energy vehicle market. In September, BYD’s Qin family of cars reported strong sales, totaling 67,577 units, highlighting the brand’s popularity despite these challenges.

BYD is committed to resolving these safety issues and ensuring the satisfaction of its customers while maintaining its leadership in the electric vehicle sector.
