Bob Myers Departs ESPN to Lead Harris-Blitzer as President of Sports

Bob Myers, former general manager of the Golden State Warriors, is set to leave his position as an ESPN basketball analyst. This transition is in favor of a new role, as the president of sports at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE).

Leading HBSE’s Sports Portfolio

Myers will oversee a diverse portfolio at HBSE, including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, and Crystal Palace F.C. of the English Premier League. HBSE also holds an investment in the NASCAR team Joe Gibbs Racing.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maximizing opportunities for each sports entity under HBSE.
  • Enhancing operational processes across the portfolio.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to strategize growth and success.

Despite his new position, there will be no change in the reporting structures of the teams within the HBSE portfolio. Team presidents in basketball and hockey operations will continue to report to their respective owners.

Myers’ Extensive Experience

Myers brings a wealth of experience, having spent 14 years as a sports agent before joining the Warriors in 2011. He was instrumental in building championship-winning teams, contributing to NBA titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Recognized for his efforts, he won the NBA Executive of the Year award in 2015 and 2017.

In 2024, Myers also acted as an advisor for Josh Harris, aiding in the development of the Washington Commanders’ leadership framework. He helped appoint figures like GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn.

Strategic Location and an Opportunity for Growth

Myers will remain based in California but plans to travel regularly to HBSE properties and events. The new role provides him the chance to collaborate with top industry leaders and executives globally.

Josh Harris and David Blitzer, the co-founders of HBSE, expressed their excitement about welcoming Myers. They acknowledged his strategic vision and experience, which align perfectly with HBSE’s growth aspirations.

Myers himself expressed admiration for Harris and Blitzer, highlighting the opportunity to leverage HBSE’s global presence in sports. This, he believes, will create competitive advantages for athletes and teams.

In closing, Myers extended gratitude to his colleagues at ESPN for their support and experience. This new challenge marks a significant step in his already illustrious career.
