Ford Issues Recall for Nearly 625,000 Vehicles Over Seatbelt and Camera Display Problems

Ford has announced a significant recall affecting nearly 625,000 vehicles. This recall is due to concerns surrounding seatbelt and camera display issues, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Details of the Recall

  • Total Vehicles Affected: Nearly 625,000
  • Models Involved:
    • Mustang (2015-2017): 332,778 vehicles
    • F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks (2020-2022): 291,901 vehicles

Seatbelt Issues in Mustang

The recall for the Mustang is prompted by a risk related to the front seat belt anchor pretensioner cables. These cables can corrode due to exposure to water and road salt, leading to a potential failure in seatbelt functionality. This situation heightens the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Camera Display Problems in Super Duty Trucks

The F-Series trucks face a different challenge. The 360-degree camera system may fail to display rearview images correctly under certain lighting conditions, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

Remedies for Affected Owners

  • For the Mustang recall, dealers will inspect and replace seat belt components as needed. Repairs will be made free of charge.
  • For the Super Duty trucks, dealers will update the image processing software without any cost to owners.

Interim letters notifying owners about these safety issues will be sent out this month. A subsequent letter will outline the final remedies, expected to be available by March 2026 for the camera issue, and January 2026 for the seatbelt issue.

Ford’s Commitment to Safety

Ford stated that the quality of its vehicles and customer safety remains a top priority. The company noted that it has significantly increased its team of safety and technical experts over the past two years to proactively identify vehicle issues.

This recent recall follows several others within the year, including:

  • A recall of over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to potential fuel leaks.
  • A recall of more than 850,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles for other safety concerns.
  • One involving over 200,000 vehicles due to a software issue.

These actions underline Ford’s commitment to resolving hardware and software issues swiftly while prioritizing customer safety.
