Legendary Jaromir Jagr Hits the Ice Again for His 38th Professional Hockey Season

Jaromir Jagr has returned to the rink for his 38th professional hockey season. The NHL icon, now 53 years old, played his first game of the season with Rytiri Kladno, a team he owns, in the Czech Extraliga. Despite reportedly considering retirement after last season, Jagr remains committed to the sport.

Jagr’s Impact on Rytiri Kladno

Jagr’s team, Rytiri Kladno, is facing challenges this season. Currently, they are positioned 13th out of 14 teams in the Extraliga, with four wins in 14 games. Since their promotion back to the top Czech league in 2021, Kladno has not finished higher than 13th.

Career Highlights and Statistics

During the previous season, Jagr participated in 39 out of 51 games, achieving five goals and 16 points. His illustrious career in the NHL includes significant milestones:

  • 11 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Retired jersey number 68 by the Penguins in February 2024
  • 1,733 regular-season NHL games played
  • 766 goals and 1,155 assists
  • A total of 1,921 points accumulated

Jagr was initially traded from the Penguins to the Washington Capitals before the 2001-2002 season. He went on to play a further 13 seasons for several teams, including the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Florida Panthers.

Future Hall of Fame Prospects

Remarkably, Jagr is not yet eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame due to his ongoing career. However, once he retires, he will qualify in three years. His impressive achievements suggest he will likely be a first-ballot inductee.
