Vanessa Eng, a 27-year-old from Jericho, is set to make her film debut in Yorgos Lanthimos’ dark comedy, “Bugonia.” The film stars Emma Stone, who plays a high-powered CEO entwined in a bizarre alien kidnapping plot. “Bugonia” will premiere in Manhattan on Friday and later on Long Island on October 31.

Initially aspiring to be a lawyer, Eng shifted her focus to acting after earning a doctorate in political science from the University of Miami. While in her final year of graduate school, she took acting classes and appeared in several short films. This experience encouraged her to audition for “Bugonia.”

Eng was surprised to land a role without initially knowing the project details. “The casting director called and said, ‘You got it.’ I was sobbing hysterically,” she shared. Her enthusiasm grew as she learned that director Yorgos Lanthimos valued her interpretation of the character.
